The most reliable warning that a family is about to quit is not a complaint. It is a child who has stopped moving up.

1. Open Assessment Progress

Reports → Assessment Progress. Each student shows their Date Joined, their Latest Passed Assessment, and the gap between that and your Reference Date.

2. Sort by the longest gap

Anyone who has not passed an assessment in around five months or more deserves a look. Not all of them are a problem — some levels genuinely take longer, and some children joined recently — but the top of that list is where your churn is coming from.

3. Work out which kind of stall it is

Open the student and check three things:

  • Their attendance. Someone attending irregularly is not stalled, they are drifting away for another reason. Check the register history.
  • Their outstanding skills. If two skills have been blocking them for months, that is a teaching plan, not a mystery.
  • Whether they have been assessed at all. Sometimes nobody put them forward. That is the easiest fix in the building.

4. Do something visible

The intervention that works is the one the parent notices: a progress update that names what is being worked on, an assessment date in the diary, or a conversation at pick-up.

Stagnation plus falling attendance is the strongest churn signal the system produces. Neither alone is conclusive; together they are worth acting on the same week.
